We’re holding a Souper Bowl of our Own!

Release Date - Dec 20, 2013

The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is holding their first ever “Souper Bowl” food drive from January 6th to February 14th. The food drive is designed to collect cans of low sodium soup for seniors and children. The organization hopes to collect 10,000 cans of soup during the drive.

“This time of year it’s still very cold, and we want to make sure that our most vulnerable have a hot meal,” said Victor Ortiz, Food Procurement Manager at the Food Bank. “With the Super Bowl coming up in February, we figured it was a great way for the community to score a touchdown of our own.”

The Food Bank is looking to hopefully have schools sign on as donation sites as well as local businesses and organizations. If you are interested in becoming a collection site, please contact Victor Ortiz at 219-980-1777 ext. 307 or via email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). The Food Bank does ask if it’s at all possible for participants to pick up the collection boxes from the Food Bank. This helps save on fuel costs.

“Hunger doesn’t end after the holidays are over. It’s a year round problem. Our community has been really great at supporting us in the fight against hunger, and we hope that will continue with the ‘Souper Bowl’ food drive,” Ortiz added.
