Free Meals for Kids from June 16th to August 8th
The Summer Feeding Program is part of the national Summer Food Services Program run by the USDA. It provides free breakfast and lunch to children 18 and under during the summer months. Pantries see an increase in clients during the summer time since kids are out of school and not able to rely on the school breakfast and lunch. This means that families need to have even more food in the house to make up for these missing meals, which in turn leads to more trips to the food pantry to try and make ends meet. The Summer Feeding Program was created to address this problem by continuing to provide those meals even though school is out.
The Summer Feeding Program will run from June 16th to August 8th, Mondays through Fridays.
The sites we will be working with this year are listed below. Please be aware that we are not the only organization providing summer meals. If we don't have a Summer Feeding site in your area you can call 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (for Spanish speakers) to find other sites across Northwest Indiana.
